Selecting Your Paintball Supplies

Paintball is more popular than ever before, with millions of participants around the globe. This sport involves the use of a special gun called a marker that is used to shoot paintballs. Normally, the sport of paintball is played in team format at a location known as a field. Teams work to eliminate members of opposing teams by hitting them with paintballs. When a player is hit with a paintball, they are out of the game. There are various types of paintball games, scenarios and strategies that can be played. Like most sports, paintball requires equipment. Here are some common paintball supplies that you will need:

Marker: A marker, sometimes called a gun or paintgun, is used to shoot the paintballs. Markers come in several configurations, including pump, semi-automatic and electronic. Depending on the brand and type of marker you choose, you can expect to pay anywhere from $50 or so to more than $1000. Markers use compressed air or CO2 contained in tanks or cartridges to propel the paintballs.

Paintballs: Paintballs are small, round gelatin capsules filled with a non-toxic type of paint. There are different calibers of paintballs to fit different markers, the most common being .68 caliber. Paintballs also come in a variety of colors. When shopping for paintballs, it's a good idea to start off buying small quantities until you find the perfect size, color and quality for your needs.

Safety Equipment: Safety is an important consideration when shopping for paintball equipment. Always choose clothing that includes long pants, long sleeves and the right shoes for the terrain. Then, you'll need a chest protector, throat protector, face mask with goggles, elbow pads, knee pads and gloves. A barrel plug is also imperative to prevent paintballs from being released during accidental marker discharge.

Other Accessories: There are a variety of other accessories you may want to purchase. Ball carriers, marker upgrades, marker cleaner and oil, ball loader, marker scope, and extra O rings are examples of paintball accessories.

As you can see, there are a variety of paintball supplies you will need in order to participate in this sport. You can either purchase these items from a store, or rent them from a paintball facility. Many beginners start with budget priced equipment, then work up to more expensive equipment as they become more experienced.
